Who we've worked with
How it works
So what is affiliate marketing, anyway? Put simply, it is a performance-based model where third-party publishers – such as online platforms, traditional media websites and social media influencers – promote a brand’s goods or services and earn a commission payment in return. A successful affiliate marketing campaign enables a brand to reach new audiences in a fast, efficient and cost-effective way.
Affiliate marketing is a true win-win strategy. It works for businesses as it helps them meet their marketing goals affordably, while also benefiting the affiliates who make passive income from their referrals.
The three typical partners in an affiliate campaign are:
- The advertiser, who pays their affiliates a commission for each completed action or sales.
- The affiliate network, which is a platform that facilitates both the advertiser and the affiliate.
- The affiliate, usually an online platform that promotes the advertiser to their audience, driving traffic, sales and sign-ups to the brand. This not only delivers new customers but also boosts brand awareness.

What is affiliate marketing?Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts. In other words, it’s a way for companies to outsource their digital marketing efforts, by integrating with affiliates, who then will promote their products or services, in exchange for a commission on sales or leads generated from the affiliates marketing activity.
-
What are the commission payment models involved in affiliate marketing?Traditional methods of affiliate compensation are based upon the completion of a desired action, these include: Cost-per-acquisition (CPA): Fulfilment of a sale Cost-per-lead (CPL): Completion of a registration form, subscription to newsletter, etc. Cost-per-click (CPC): Fixed rate based on banner/creative clicks CPA is considered to be the most successful and well-established affiliate payment method. It typically operates on a last-click wins approach, which credits the last referring affiliate with the commission. This model has been a mainstay in the affiliate channel for the best part of two decades and has given site owners the opportunity to flourish in the digital landscape by monetising their websites. As the evolution of technology has been rapidly improving, it now provides advertisers more insights into the affiliate world, making the customer journey less linear, and therefore conversations are now mainly focused on the best methods for affiliate compensation.
-
Will I need a developer?Advertisers will require some technical expertise to integrate sales tracking with the affiliate marketing network. This is often just a straightforward plugin for most common Ecommerce platforms.
-
How do we pay affiliates?Advertiser sales are tracked via an affiliate marketing network e.g. Awin, Tradedoubler, Commission Junction. Sales are validated during validation period (decided by the advertiser), and invoices are then generated for validated sales, from the network for commission payments to affiliates.
-
What is the difference between an publisher/affiliate and an advertiser?Publishers, also known as affiliates or partners, are the people that promote a product or service on their website for their audience, receiving a commission payment for each action. Advertisers, sometimes referred to as merchants or brands, is the term used for the person or company that has the product to sell and that pay the commission to the affiliate for each action.
-
How are sales tracked?Sales, clicks, conversion, commission and revenue can be tracked via an affiliate marketing network interface e.g. Awin, Tradedoubler or Commission Junction.
-
Launch costs?Prices to launch with an affiliate network start at £75 per month. Prices for affiliate marketing start at £800 per month.
-
What is the minimum term contract? We know sometimes clients can feel nervous about committing to long term contracts for affiliate marketing management, and it is often their first time exploring affiliate marketing as an additional revenue stream.
